Cocktail of the Month:

Mulled Wine

Nothing signals the holiday season more than the sweet aroma of mulled wine filling the air and warming your home. This month’s featured cocktail is a classic recipe that’s incorporated all over the world!

Pull out your Dutch oven and your spices! Both the flavor and the use of the Dutch oven make this recipe the best of both worlds, as after the wine is consumed, the aroma still lingers, filling your home with the sweet scents of Fall and Winter.

Ingredients:

How to Make:

Makes 8 Cocktails
1 bottle of Merlot
1 bottle of Apple Cider
2 Mandarin Oranges - juiced and sliced
7 Whole Cloves
3 Cinnamon Sticks
1 Whole Nutmeg - cracked
1 Fuji or Gala Apple - cut into slices
Optional:
1/2 cup of Brandy - if you want to kick it up a notch
4 tbs of Maple Syrup - for a sweeter drink

Garnish:
Cinnamon Stick, Orange Slice, Apple Slice, Star Anise and/or Whole Cloves.
Set your Dutch oven to low heat and pour in both the wine and apple cider, along with brandy (for a stronger drink). Add the juice and pulp of one orange, maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, cloves, orange slices, apple slices, stir together and let stand on low heat for 1 hour.

You can set the stove on low heat and leave it on throughout the day. The longer the mixture sits, the sweeter it will get.

Serve hot from the pot, and add a cinnamon stick, a slice of apple, and a slice of orange as garnish for each glass. For extra flavor, garnish with star anise and two or three whole cloves.
